STONE CREST FARM *~* OTHER ANIMALS *~* Tour the Stable Yard and meet all the different animals who call this farm home. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see a photo album of the many different animals. The Dogs - Ollie is the boss dog. He has been Rick's faithful partner for 6 years now. He's a Border Collie, traditionally a herding breed of dog. Ollie helps out in all sorts of ways. He helps bring in all the horses, round up ducks, and at times barks to encourage a stubborn horse or pony. My dog is Panda, also a Border Collie. She is young and still learning what to do, but the herding instinct is strong and she truly is a working dogs. We also have Wimpy, a Great Pyrenees x Anatolian Shepherd dog. He usually stays at the barn, guarding all the animals wandering about. The Cats - I raise Manx cats. More information on our Manx cats and kittens can be found HERE! The Ducks - Raising Muscovy ducks is one of my favorite hobbies. Muscovy ducks are highly intelligent and have some of the funniest personalities. My Muscovies come in many colors, white, brown, blue, piebald, black, lavender, and cream are some of the colors we've raised, as well as each of those colors mixed with white. They are easy to take care of and will forage completely on their own if left free range. They are excellent mothers, and many of my females raise 2-3 clutches of ducklings each year. Needless to say we have plenty of Muscovies! We also raise Pekins, Blue Swedish, Indian Runners, White Calls, and Mallards. It is interesting to see all the different breeds of ducks out on the pond, especially since all the different kinds of duck seem to naturally separate into their own individual flocks. FOR SALE - Several young Muscovies, males & females, many colors available. **WANTED - Pair of green Cayuga ducks The Chickens - A rooster and hen pecking in the stable yard is usually the first thing you'll see when you pull up to the barn. We keep and raise several chickens throughout the year. Our chicks are started inside, with heat lamps and we feed Dumour or Southern States brand poultry starter to all our young birds. We have several breeds of chickens including: Americana, Dominique, Old English Game, Rhode Island Reds, Buff Orpingtons, Black Australorps and several crosses raised right here on the farm. ***WANTED - Top-hat chickens or chicks The Geese - Embden geese Two white Embden geese call the stable their home. They are 2 years old, a goose (female) and a gander (male) pair. They can be found on the pond, gracefully swimming with their long, arched necks. This year was the first year for the female to lay eggs and make a nest. She used an old duck nest underneath the feed room to lay her eggs. Her mate stays with her as her bodyguard day and night. Once a day, everyday, they make their way to the pond, honking as they go, where the female bathes in the pond, eats a quick meal, and hurries back to her nest. Her devoted mate follows behind her, keeping the other ducks and chickens away. She settles back on the nest and continues to wait the 28-35 days it takes for her eggs to hatch. The Rabbits - We keep several rabbits for the children who come to camp to help care for. We also raise several litters of rabbits each year to sell. FOR SALE - Young Rabbits, Dutch Cross - $5/each And All The Rest... - In addition to all of the other animals mentioned, we have a few more critters running around the farm. We keep a pair of Bourbon Red Turkeys and a noisy flock of Guineafowl that are often found in the stable yard. We currently have 5 feeder pigs that are a lot of fun to watch romp and roll in their muddy pigpen. You can also usually find either a calf or a goat being raised in our smaller livestock barn. Photo Album Here are some photos of our animals. Everything here seems to get along. In fact, we've seen puppies sleeping with piglets, kittens resting with ducks, and all sorts of animal companions.
