The American Cob is not exactly a breed...yet. Cobs in general are a "type" of horse - a short, stocky and also athletic horse. In essence a large drafty pony.
More info on Cobs can be found at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cob_(horse)
I have started the American Cob Registry to keep track of and register the quality Cobs that are being bred in the United States, most often by accident.
I would like there to be a bloodline developed within the American Cob Registry, but that is several years down the road. If you would like to become more involved as the registry grows, please let me know.
If you own a horse or pony you feel fits the characteristics and qualities of an American Cob, please e-mail .

"I just wanted to tell you that I think your idea for an american cob is a good one. When I visited ireland I rode an irish cob and it
was a very nice horse. We don't really have the equivalent here. I now have a
haflinger which is also a short sturdy horse and many people are interested in a
horse like that I've discovered.
I live in quarter horse country but they are getting taller and taller, with
big bodies on thin legs and little feet, and they aren't as sound as they used
to be, and many aren't as mellow as they used to be either.
There seems to be a great need for a small sturdy very tractable
recreational horse. Good luck with your registry."
